Frequently Asked Questions

Repayment begins after the moratorium period — which covers the full course duration plus [X] months after course completion. If you secure employment before the moratorium ends, you may begin repayment early — reducing your total interest cost. There is no penalty for beginning repayment ahead of schedule. The first compulsory EMI is due [X] months after your course end date.

Simple interest accrues on the disbursed loan amount throughout the moratorium period. You have two options. You can service this interest monthly during the course — keeping your post-moratorium EMI lower and reducing total interest outgo. Or you can allow it to accumulate — in which case it is added to the principal at the end of the moratorium and factored into your EMI calculation. The total cost illustration in Section 4 shows the rupee difference between both options for a sample loan.

No. A confirmed admission letter from the institution is mandatory at the time of application. You cannot apply on the basis of an expected admission or a preliminary offer. Apply as soon as you receive your confirmed admission letter — and factor in [X] weeks of processing time before the institution's fee deadline.

The co-applicant is jointly and severally liable for the full outstanding loan amount — including principal, interest, and any applicable charges. If the student is unable to repay for any reason, the bank will pursue repayment from the co-applicant. This is a full legal liability — not a backup guarantee. Both the student and co-applicant must understand this before signing the loan agreement.

This is assessed individually. Working professionals with strong income documentation and a stable employment history may be eligible for a reduced or waived co-applicant requirement in some cases. Contact your branch for an assessment of your specific situation before assuming a co-applicant is mandatory.

Section 80E of the Income Tax Act allows a full deduction of interest paid on an education loan — with no upper limit. The deduction is available for [X] years from the year repayment begins. Either the student or the co-applicant can claim it — whoever is actually making the repayment. The principal repayment is not deductible — only the interest component qualifies. Obtain an interest certificate from Hindusthan at the end of each financial year for your tax filing.

If the student discontinues the course, contact your branch immediately. The loan is not automatically cancelled — the outstanding disbursed amount plus accrued interest remains payable. The moratorium period may be reviewed depending on the reason for discontinuation. Early communication gives the best chance of arranging a manageable repayment plan.

Yes. If the primary applicant is a female student, the [X]% interest rate concession is applied at the time of loan sanction — it does not need to be requested separately. The concession rate is confirmed in the Loan Sanction Letter. Ensure your application clearly identifies the student's gender to avoid any processing delays.
