Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. You do not need an existing account with Hindusthan to open a Fixed Deposit. However, having a linked Savings Account simplifies interest payout and maturity proceeds — as the amounts can be credited directly to your account. Walk into any branch with your KYC documents and deposit amount to get started.

The minimum deposit amount for a standard Fixed Deposit is ₹10,000. There is no upper limit. For Short Term Deposits and the Dam Duppath Theva Yojana, the minimum is ₹1,000.

Yes. Premature withdrawal is permitted, subject to a penalty on the applicable interest rate as per our current terms. The penalty amount will be communicated to you at the time of opening the deposit. For deposits broken within [X] days of opening, no interest may be payable.

If you do not provide renewal or withdrawal instructions before the maturity date, your FD will be automatically renewed for the same tenure at the interest rate prevailing on the maturity date — unless you have opted for a specific post-maturity instruction at the time of opening.

Yes. Hindusthan offers loans of up to 85% of your Fixed Deposit value, with the FDR pledged as collateral. Interest is charged on the loan amount, while your deposit continues to earn the original FD rate. This is the most cost-effective way to access funds without breaking your deposit.

As per Income Tax regulations, TDS is deducted on Fixed Deposit interest if the total interest earned in a financial year exceeds ₹40,000 (₹50,000 for senior citizens). If your total income is below the taxable limit, you can submit Form 15G (or Form 15H for senior citizens) at your branch to avoid TDS deduction.

Yes. You can add or change the nominee for your Fixed Deposit at any time by visiting your home branch with a written nomination request. We strongly recommend registering a nominee for every deposit — it simplifies the claim process significantly for your family.
