FAQs
Want to know the answers of the frequently asked questions in banking? Here's some of them.

Hindusthan Co-op. Bank is a member-owned urban cooperative bank, registered in Mumbai since 1970. Unlike a commercial bank that is owned by shareholders and listed on a stock exchange, we are owned by our members — the very people who bank with us. Every major decision is made by a board elected by the membership, and our primary obligation is to our members, not to external investors. That is the cooperative difference.
Yes. Hindusthan Co-op. Bank operates under RBI Licence No. M.H.986P, granted on 2nd March 1989. We are fully regulated by the Reserve Bank of India and are subject to the same banking laws and guidelines that govern all licensed banks in India.
Absolutely. Your deposits with Hindusthan Co-op. Bank are insured up to ₹5,00,000 per depositor under the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) scheme — the same protection offered to depositors of any RBI-licensed bank in India. As of March 2025, cooperative banks carry a higher insured deposit ratio than commercial banks, making them a structurally safe choice for depositors.

The minimum balance requirement for a Savings Account is ₹1000. If your balance falls below this amount, a nominal maintenance charge may apply. Our branch staff will explain the current charges clearly before you open your account — there are no surprises.
Interest on your Savings Account is calculated on the daily closing balance and credited to your account on a quarterly basis, as per Reserve Bank of India guidelines. The current interest rate is 2.5% per annum.

A Current Account is designed for businesses, traders, merchants, corporate entities, and government bodies that conduct a high volume of daily transactions. If you are managing business cash flows, issuing cheques regularly, receiving bulk payments, or operating on behalf of an organisation — a Current Account is the right choice. Savings Accounts are better suited for individuals managing personal finances.
No. Hindusthan Current Accounts come with unlimited transactions — deposits, withdrawals, and transfers — with no monthly cap. This makes them suitable for businesses with high daily transaction volumes.
The minimum balance requirement for a Current Account is ₹10000. Our branch staff will inform you of the current charges for falling below the minimum balance before you open the account.

Premature withdrawal of Fixed Deposits is permitted, subject to a penalty on the interest rate as per our current terms. The applicable penalty will be communicated to you at the time of opening the deposit. Contact your branch for the specific terms before making a premature withdrawal decision.
A Recurring Deposit (RD) is a savings product where you deposit a fixed amount every month for a predetermined tenure. At the end of the tenure, you receive the total amount deposited plus the interest earned. It is ideal for people who want to build savings gradually through small, regular contributions rather than a lump sum investment.
The minimum monthly deposit for a Recurring Deposit is ₹100, in multiples of ₹100. The minimum tenure is 1 year and the maximum is 10 years. Interest rates on Recurring Deposits are as per the applicable Fixed Deposit rates for the corresponding tenure.
Dam Duppath Theva Yojana is our Double Your Deposit scheme. You open the account with a minimum of ₹1,000, and at maturity, the amount deposited is doubled. The maturity period is calculated based on the rate of interest prevailing at the time of deposit. Gold loans are typically processed quickly — often on the same day — with minimal paperwork.
Eligibility for a Home Loan is assessed based on your income, repayment capacity, employment status, and the property being purchased or constructed. Both salaried and self-employed individuals can apply. Visit your nearest branch for a detailed eligibility assessment and to understand the documentation required.
You can use our free EMI Calculator on the homepage to estimate your monthly repayment based on loan amount, interest rate, and tenure. The calculator gives you an indicative figure — the exact EMI will be confirmed at the time of loan sanction based on the applicable rate and terms.
Loan processing timelines vary by product type. Gold Loans are typically processed on the same day. Personal and vehicle loans are usually processed within 10 working days of submitting complete documentation. Home and business loans may take longer depending on the complexity of the application and property verification requirements.

For a personal loan, you will typically need proof of identity, proof of address, proof of income (salary slips or ITR), recent bank statements, and passport-size photographs. Surety loans additionally require the identity and income documents of the guarantor. Visit your branch for the complete and current documentation checklist.
Missing an EMI will attract a late payment penalty as per your loan agreement and may affect your credit profile. If you are facing difficulty repaying, contact your branch immediately — do not wait. Our team will work with you to find a manageable solution. Early communication almost always leads to a better outcome than delayed action.

At Hindusthan, every account holder is a member — not merely a customer. As a member, you are a co-owner of the bank. You have the right to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting, access the bank's financial statements, stand for election to the Board of Directors, and participate in the democratic governance of the institution. This is a fundamental difference from commercial banking, where customers have no ownership rights whatsoever.
Membership is initiated at the time of opening an account. When you open a Savings or Current Account with us, you become a member of the cooperative and are allotted shares in the bank as per our bye-laws. There is no separate membership application process.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the bank's most important governance event of the year. It is the forum where the board presents the annual financial results, members vote on key resolutions, directors are elected, and auditors are appointed. You are not obligated to attend — but as a member and co-owner of the bank, your participation strengthens the democratic governance that makes a cooperative institution what it is. AGM notices are published on our website and sent to registered members in advance.
The Board of Directors of Hindusthan Co-op. Bank is elected by and from the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Any eligible member can stand for election to the board, and all members have the right to vote. This democratic election process is what makes cooperative bank governance fundamentally different from commercial bank governance.
Yes. All financial statements, audit reports, and Annual Reports are published on our Financial Transparency page and are accessible to all members. Additionally, full financial disclosures are presented at the Annual General Meeting. If you require documents that are not publicly listed, contact us at admin@hindusthan.bank.in.
Closing your account initiates the process of membership cessation as per our registered bye-laws. Your shareholding will be settled as per the applicable terms. Contact your home branch for specific details on the membership exit process before closing your account.
You can raise a complaint by visiting your home branch in person, writing to our Grievance Redressal Officer at support@hindusthan.bank.in, or calling our Toll-free on 022-3501-3800. Most complaints are resolved at the branch level within 7 working days. If your complaint is not resolved satisfactorily, you may escalate it to the Chairman of the Board in writing at our Head Office address.
If your grievance remains unresolved after exhausting our internal redressal process, you have the right to approach the RBI Banking Ombudsman — a free, independent dispute resolution authority for banking customers. The Banking Ombudsman for Maharashtra is located at Reserve Bank of India, Garment House, Ground Floor, Dr. Annie Besant Road, Worli, Mumbai — 400018. You can also file a complaint online at www.rbi.org.in or call the RBI Helpline on 14448.
